About the Alexander
TechniqueIf
you observe small children, you'll notice how effortlessly they sit,
stand and move around. Observe most adults and you'll see a variety of
tension, distortion and collapse. Much of this lack of ease and
inefficiency in movement stems from habits that we've developed since
childhood.
The consequences of these habits can range from discomfort to disaster. We often view them as the unavoidable results of our modern lifestyles, but our habits are not as unchangeable as you may have believed. The Alexander Technique offers an effective method of 'unlearning' them. Rather than doing more, as you would in a programme of vigorous exercise, you learn to do less. You learn to recognise and release inappropriate tensions, many of which have been unconscious. So if ... ° you get recurring pain in your back, neck, shoulders, or limbs, or you suffer from breathing difficulties, headaches or fatigue ° you think you need to change your posture, but find it uncomfortable or tiring to stand or sit up straight ° you would like to be more resilient to stress ° you want to improve your performance in work or other activities ° you would like to enhance your appearance, look taller, more poised and relaxed and improve your presentation skills then I may be able to help.
