![]() Comments from my pupils musicians 'I took lessons to help relieve the back and shoulder problems which occured when I was playing the piano and flute. I now get less pain from extended sessions of playing and I think my general posture has also improved. I also generally feel more relaxed after practising the Technique' (Alan) |

'My piano playing is improving and my
general attitude to life has changed somewhat. I'm eating a different
diet, have lost weight and my digestion has improved. I'm also
able to move more easily, particularly up and down stairs (I have two
very bad knees).' (John)
'As
a musician I expected that the Alexander Technique would be of
relevance, having first heard of it at the Royal School of Music thirty
years ago. Apart from the music slant though, I was sure it would be
another aid to 'wholeness' and integration and I came along with an
open mind, curious and willing to see myself from yet another
perspective. I'd also been suffering consistent, not serious, back pain.
The
benefits have been subtle and gradual rather than dramatic. For one
thing, the back pain has now disappeared completely. I
t's difficult to explain how else
it has helped me, but I'm undoubtedly more 'at one' with myself, not
just physically but mentally and spiritually. I'm generally less tense
(in a variety of ways) and have seen that not only does the mind
control the body but, very significantly, the body assists the mind to
keep itself together.In
becoming more aware of my movements, my points of tightening, I've
been able to let go to some extent in these areas. It's in this easing
and 'freeing-up' that I've been able to find a more natural body
position and a flow of movement which was not there previously.
Overall, I have a deeper sense of well-being - and who doesn't want
that!' (Paul)
