posture and pain

' I've had a major back problem with constant pain. The lessons have helped me become aware of the tension I was holding and have shown me how to consciously reduce it. They've been a definite help for driving (with less tension) and skiing (with looser posture and improved technique). I'm more conscious of my posture in everyday life and my technique for lifting is now much better.'  (Sally)

'Over the years my posture had become poor and my general body movements lazy and disjointed. I'd been experiencing neck and upper back pain for some months before cervical spondilitis was diagnosed. Physiotherapy had some benefit, but the pain returned within a few days of each treatment. The pain was so acute at times that my whole body would tense. I was also experiencing difficulty in sleeping. I couldn't find a comfortable position for more than a few minutes at a time.
Learning to 'quieten' my body has been a real revelation to me. I have a tendency to rush everything, but since starting the lessons I'm learning to think before making movements. From the very first lesson, I started to learn the importance of relaxing and allowing my neck to be free. I have little or no pain most of the time now.'   (Barbara)

'With a long-term, chronic neck/upper spine problem, I'd also started to develop a lower back problem. I didn't really know why, nothing specific had happened. I thought it might be a knock-on effect from my other problems, or that it was postural. Being keen to try something less harsh for my body than some of the previous treatments I'd had, plus aim for a method that would be more pro-active on my part, I decided to try the Technique.
My lower back problem has now resolved and I've learned a lot about the way I was moving and putting unnecessary strain on my body. My habits related to longer-term problems I'm finding harder to break, but do feel that I'm getting there and am less reliant on other treatments. As an unexpected side-effect I've improved my riding 'seat'. For the first time in months I recently rode without a back support and was fine.'   (Margaret)
